Ludwigshafen

Stadt Ludwigshafen am Rhein  is a city in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is located on the Rhine river opposite Mannheim

With Mannheim, Heidelberg and the surrounding region, it forms the Rhine Neckar Area. With its population of almost 166,000 people, Ludwigshafen is the second largest city in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, one of 16 federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Known primarily as an industrial city, Ludwigshafen is the home of chemical giant BASF, as well as other companies. Only 160 years old, Ludwigshafen is the economic power centre in Rhineland-Palatinate and a significant job provider for an entire region. People from more than 140 nations have found their home in Ludwigshafen.

Ludwigshafen is historically and economically an integral part of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region and the Rhine-Neckar Triangle, whose name derives from the shape given by the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers. This region cuts across political boundaries and includes parts of the states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Hessen.

The Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region is the seventh largest conurbation in Germany with a population of about 2.3 million. The region is well-known for its internationally operating businesses including BASF SE, ABB AG, DaimlerChrysler AG, La Roche Mannheim GmbH, John Deere, Siemens AG, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and SAP AG as well as many small and medium-sized companies.

The city area is 19420 acres large, of which 2648 acres are green and unbuilt area. Ludwigshafen connects modern urbanity with grown structures. Attractive living quarters offer space for most various needs and concepts of life: In Ludwigshafen, one is living close to the city directly on the Rhine, in urban districts with a rather village-type structure, in family-friendly new housing areas or in energy-efficiently refurbished flats in old buildings.
