Veolia inspires the next generation with interactive educational visits to Torrelago demo site during European Sustainable Energy Week

During European Sustainable Energy Week (19-25 June), Veolia invited more than 50 children from Miguel Hernández Primary School to visit the new District Heating network serving part of the local community since 2015.

These special visitors have a specific interest, as the school is located at the heart of the Torrelago district, Laguna de Duero, one of the largest retrofit sites in Europe.

The fun and informal educational visit began with some discussions and participatory activities on the importance of sustainability, a quiz, games and a brief explanation of the operating mode of the District Heating network in Laguna de Duero, which was followed by a guided tour through the biomass boiler room.

The event was a precious opportunity to inspire and educate future generations on the importance of sustainable technologies, which reduce CO2 emissions and improve thermal comfort and energy efficiency. In this connection, one of the most important objectives of the CITyFiED project is to foster social awareness regarding energy efficiency, and children have an important role to contribute to a new generation of energy conscious consumers, being the first link in a knowledge chain. Both, Veolia and scholars have enjoyed this and similar exercises a great deal and hope to repeat this type of event every year.
