The city located in the Aegean District is surrounded by the city of Balıkesir in the north, Kütahya in the north east, Uşak in the east, Denizli in the southeast, Aydın in the south and İzmir in the west.
The city has 17 districts including Soma. Present geographical area of the district is about 13230 square km and total population is aproximately 1,4 million in 2013. Urban population is concentrated on the 17 district centres. Urban migration rates are around 1-2% and is driven by economic dynamics, particularly poor returns in agriculture.
Since Manisa has a lot of plains nearly % 38 of the land is productive in agriculture. The most productive areas are Gediz, Bakırçay, Alaşehir, Salihli and Turgutlu plains located around the rivers Gediz and Bakırçay. The city is well known for its olives, grapes, pistachios, corn.
The climate of Manisa is in the category of Meditteranean climate. Average temperature though out the year is 17 oC. July is the hottest month with an average temperature of 34,9 oC and January is the coldest month with 3oC average temperature. With a 740 mm rainfall average it can be said that Manisa has semi-arid character.

After the date of March, 30 2014 Manisa Municipality has been turned into Metropolitan Municipality which serves 1.359.463 citizen and has a provincial administrative boundaries due to the Law no 6360.
