In 1993 Soma-A Thermal Plant is merged with Soma-B Thermal Plant Exploitation Management and Soma Thermal Plant Exploitation Management established. In 1995 by the execution of the privatization law Soma Thermal Plant has been transformed to corporation (Soma Electricity Production and Commerce Company) and following the decision of High Board of Privatization on 30 August 1997 it is finally decided to be affiliated to Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and placed under Electricity Generation Company of the Ministry.
The thermal plant has 1034 MW electricity production capacity. SEAŞ has 6 unites used for electricity production. SEAŞ is a coal-powered plant with yearly average consumption of 8.186.000 tons coal.
